Autobianchi A112 Abarth Group N

A model that kicked off the careers of many young drivers.

The proposed car comes from a collection of racing Abarths, is set up in group N configuration and retains the first CSAI racing homologation from 1982 with all the documentation certifying its suitability for sporting use in Italy; within this document all the modifications carried out following technical regulamentations are reported and recorded: roll cage, OMP seats and belts, battery  and safety devices with FIA approval of the time, and furthermore some upgrades intended to improve performance, among them the adoption of the 5-speed gearbox ideal for hillclimb races; it is also present its technical passport from 1989, with the chronology of participation in the competitions.

The car has been presented and analyzed in multiple sector magazines which can also be viewed as can be done with the documentation about participation in official competitions from 1989 to 1991.

The A112 in the Abarth version was designed with the intention of facing mini cooper’s egemony in competitions.

The target was successfully achieved, as demonstrated by countless victories and the uninterrupted use of the car in competitions for almost twenty years: the first sports homologation was registered in March 1972, and the last expired in December 1990.

The A112 Abarths were used in all covered wheel sports categories, from an immense number of professional or amateur drivers, achieving an impressive overall list of successes, among that competitions is impossible not to mention A112 trophy: a single-brand trophy founded by FIAT which ran between 1977 and 1984. They are currently widely used in uphill races or rallies reserved for historic cars.
